Cafe Umami

It was lunchtime and I driving along the main street of Wynyard looking for a car park. Found one right out front of Cafe Umami. What a fluke this turned out to be, because I was actually intending to go to the French Bakery across the road. What a find. I'm so pleased to be able to share this with other foodies. Its full table service. I ordered smoothie called Brainfood, that consisted of charcoal powder, banana, almond butter, cinnamon, coconut oil and coconut milk. It was delivered to my table in a tall glass and the smoothie was grey. Definitely not pleasing to the eye, but my taste bud were having a party, it was delicious. I also ordered the slow cooked lamb shoulder with roast veggies, another winner, flavour packed and presentation was spot on. I looked at all the home made sweets in their display fridge and it was a struggle to choose. (First world problem of course). The home made baked cheesecake was suggested. I'm not a fan of cheesecake full stop. It looked amazing and I bit the bullet and tried the baked cheesecake...... yum yum yum. Every time I put my fork into it there was a little burst of fruity surprise and the biscuit base was crunchy and dark golden brown and one of the finest I have tasted. Such a wonderful place! Friendly staff, delicious food, great coffee and cute tables out the front! Can’t wait to come back so many goodies to choose from in the treats cabinet too! Spoilt for choice

A local gem worth returning to again and again. Their keto fudge deserves its own paragraph (and possibly a fan club). It’s rich, satisfying, and doesn’t send blood sugars on a rollercoaster — just smooth, steady energy. If you’re low-carb or just don’t enjoy the sugar crash, this is the treat to satisfy the sugar cravings. The Earl Grey tea is exceptional — fragrant, full-bodied, and the kind that makes ordinary supermarket tea feel like coloured water by comparison. One cup and you’ll be ruined for teabags forever. Breakfast here is not only delicious but genuinely beautiful. My keto breakfast was art on a plate — creamy avocado, perfectly cooked eggs, generous bacon, sauerkraut for zing, and yes, a flower on top because food should bring joy to the eyes and the mouth. It’s filling without being heavy, fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully put together. Friendly service, great ingredients, consistently high quality. If you haven’t tried Umami yet — go. You might walk in for breakfast, but you’ll leave thinking about the fudge.

Cute, artsy 100% gluten free cafe. ⭐ Obviously frequented by locals by the friendly chats that took place with staff while I was having lunch. Chicken salad with blueberries and pineapple was delish! Disabled access. Some outside tables.

We stopped by cafe umami to have brunch. Very friendly staff. Food is quite nice and good portion, there was slightly bitterness to their bread but it was quite good . Coffee isn’t the best . Hopefully they will improve their coffee quality. Will try again in future.

After recently changing to gluten free we tried Cafe Umami and really enjoyed everything about them. The service was great, the atmosphere relaxing and the food was terrific. Being able to relax and enjoy the food without the constant thought of getting sick from it enabled us both to really enjoy the whole experience. I was able to adapt the food to suit my dietary requirements without any drama or fuss. We had one of the best breakfasts out.

Awesome, love this place, fully gluten free and the food is delicious. Check the specials board and drinks, the coffee is excellent
